I really fail to understand why anyone would want to fight in a war. I can think of a few where I would, like if my country was invaded - but really, we're usually the invader in that instance.

I judge our wars by just flipping them around, reversing them. What if Saddam had invaded the United States with "shock and awe" weapons and a military that made ours look like toys?

War is mechanized murder. It's totally impersonal, makes no judgements of worth or justice. The enemy just wants to kill you, by any means necessary, and the means keep getting more efficient and deadly. To stick your head up is to gamble on getting a bullet in it.
