7/6/12 Contest Update Biotech stocks, especially a good number of Contest portfolio picks, celebrated Independence Day with a fine fireworks display. But the partying was more muted in other Wall Street neighborhoods. At Friday’s close the Contest median was up 34.87% YTD (vs. up 27.43% YTD a week ago). In comparison, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 26.86% YTD (vs. up 24.61% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 12.75% YTD (vs. up 12.66% YTD a week ago). DONS’ portfolio, up 67.89% YTD, took back the Contest lead as SNTA bounced back from the prior week’s losses. ANON’s portfolio, up 65.47% YTD, dropped to second place and DOUGH’s portfolio, up 60.41% YTD, moved into third place. At Friday's close, 4 of the 38 Contest portfolios were still in the red and 22 of the 38 portfolios were beating the NBI. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week. (Foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in the weekly and YTD Top 5 & Bottom 5 tables, when posted.) Portfolio adjustments: 1) The AstraZeneca buyout of RDEA at $32 closed and I reallocated the proceeds based on 6/29/12 closing prices. (RDEA was held in two portfolios, FILO and LJM.) 2) CHRIS08 hasn’t reversed his decision to remove his name from the Contest. So, as per the plan I posted last week, I substituted ANON for CHRIS08 in my spreadsheets. Have a terrific weekend biotechies!
