why do you complain about what doctors charge ?.....they can charge any amount but only get what insurance pays for.

what about the exorbitant amount paid to CEOs and WallStreeters who have never saved one human being let along spent any volunteer activity in a nearby hospital.

Not sure that doctor's education costs is the key to the problem but your point is well taken. Sure doesn't help having them a half mil in the hole upon graduation. I wonder what the stats are with respect to what percentage of cost goes to doctor's. My guess well less than a third.

Thing you are dead on about the focus needing to be on costs rather than how to get more money into the "system". And that many key players are incentivized to push cost's higher. That's probably the bigger part of the problem.

Another big aspect of this is how costs are paid. Once the patient pays the co-pay, they don't give a damn about what other costs are charged - since someone else is paying them. Think a big part of an overall solution would be to reduce premiums and have the patient pay 1% of the bill so the cost side of the equation gets some scrutiny. How the heck does a hospital get away with charging 10 to 20 K for a single day?

Makes no sense to me. Thankfully, I've never been admitted to a hospital and hopefully never will ...
