Anyone think it is possible that WSTL will be taken over? It was
rumored earlier that Lucent was going to buy Pairgain, and now
Texas Instruments is going to takeover Amati.

Any opinions?

hal: Why did you invest in AMTX if you feel this way? I've seen a few AMTX investors make a 180 degree turn on the xDSL technology since the Westell/Amati and TI/Amati merger announcements. I sold AMTX many moons ago because they didn't have a CAP based solution. I still feel CAP will be deployed in 1998 and DMT will eventually be deployed. The going theory 2 years ago was, CAP first DMT second.

I tend to agree with this statement but Bell Atlantic is going after the residential Internet access first.

... Bell Atlantic plans to begin by offering an ADSL-based data service for consumers, followed shortly thereafter by a business offering. The company is evaluating pricing and deployment locations at this time.

By the end of the decade, Bell Atlantic says it expects ADSL service to be the leading high-speed, network access service in the consumer market in its territory....

<I have found your comments to be insightful and accurate. I have the
same considerations and beliefs..>

And I respect and agree with YOUR conservative pragmatism, Hal.

<.. When we do see the first major deployments into major cities, I will buy into the winner of the xDSL contract hook, line, and sinker..>

Depending of course on the company and the margins. If it's primarily the major telco integrators (like ALA/CSCO) selling below cost to lock-in the market, it may not AFFORD a play, IMO.
