Bernie Madoff got his just desserts, but they are just dead, retired, or still lying. For every billion that Bernie destroyed, our politicians are destroying a trillion. When they come to town, instead of getting cuffed, they get a police escort, and receive honors. They worry that "austerity" - meaning, not spending trillions they do not have - would cause hardships and have human costs. As if a major socio-economic blowout would be cost free.
