There are *lots* of issues in play.

Wrong about that. Many operations are still ongoing, some are before grand juries, some others are under court seal, many undercover informants could be jeopardized by some unredacted and not-careful-enough document dump. (I'm sure the Cartels would love to see some of these names....)

That has been discussed in numerous news reports of the imbroglio... DoJ has said 'cannot be compelled to BREAK the LAW' when answering a document request.

Since it has now all been escalated, (and can no longer be settled in negotiations between the government branches), a Court will have to adjudicate each document request where privilege or violation of law is asserted.

And... nothing wrong with that. That's one of the roles of the Judicial branch.
