I disagree with the writer. Only after the retirement age and unemployment laws will be harmonized - meaning same retirement age for ALL EU countries and labor laws liberalized and riddance of socialist/communist rules with normal vacation time (not mandatory 4 weeks on top of holydays ) and similar free holidays in ALL the EU only then the writer may have a point until then let those not willing to work at least 1,800 hours a year and retire like in Germany starve.

as a side comment Israel increased the retirement age from 65 to 67, why Spain Italy France and Greece can not adopt the same? Why some EU countries have a retirement age of 60 for men or earlier?

If I do not want to work after 60 in Israel I will starve and no one will give a dam. I think there is not even training availability if I want to change professions at this age.
