No, we liberals took control of the house of representatives in the 70's and formed a huge government program to save money for the people, "The Alaska Permanent Fund" and insisted 25% of all oil money go into a permanent fund for the kids. today it is 50% of all resoruce moeny from state land.

The oil companies and bought Republicans fought us, in a blood in the streets fight. No big government programs for them!

But we were like young turks, most of us were in our early 30's, hippies and fearless. We told the Republicans if they did not go along with us, we would bottle up everything they wanted in committee.

And then we put the Permanent fund in the constitution requiring a 3/4ers vote of both house to touch the principle, so the Republican's could never get at it. And then we forced them to inflation proof it before any money is spent each year (like pulling teeth).

We were led by a liberal Republican jay Hammond who ived in the bush with an Inuit wife.

We now have 50 billion in the fund and the revenue pays for all our social system each year. No need for any taxes. That is what happens when liberals get control of the legislature.

And for good meaure we legalized pot.

I was the State director of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and Emergency Medical Services during this time.
