It is lost already over there because of how fast that thread rolls off:From: Farmboy 6 Recommendations Read Replies (1) of 494103 Indeed, and that is sad. We, our flag, used to represent freedom and liberty and prosperity throughout the world. Even where the governments hated us, they had to respect that flag. I can remember standing on the tarmac, watching one of our 'official' jets landing one night, in Brazzaville, Congo. The Congolese government had sent several representatives of 'Ministerial' and high ranking military level to meet and greet the man arriving on the plane, the Asst SECSTATE for African Affairs. There were even some folks from 'allied' embassies there, including some ambassadors, and other embassies' staff, as the visitor was an 'old African hand' and several of the folks from the other countries had met him before. Anticipation was heavy in the air, as folks chatted casually to pass the minutes. In a bit, the landing lights of the plane appeared out of the darkness of the equatorial night, and the USAF Gulfstream 4 ever so gently settled down on the runway in a perfect landing with that intensely bright, white-hot spotlight illuminating that Stars and Stripes and the Seal of the US on the tail of the shiny sky blue and white jet. As the plane rolled toward and then even with the spot we were standing, the people waiting to greet the guest just spontaneously and simultaneously broke into applause and cheers. A couple of them grabbed me, standing there in my uniform, lump of pride squarely in my throat, and shook hands with me, smiling, ear-to-ear, not speaking a word out loud, but their expressions saying it all. That plane, that flag, that seal, so brightly illuminated as the plane decelerated and turned onto a taxiway ... the applause, and the cheers ..... I knew that night, at that moment, with 100% certainty ... I would never, ever, want to be anyone but an American, and was literally bursting with pride, just because I could say, "Yep, that's us". Now ... well, we have lost more stature in the world over the past three and a half years, than we had over the 25 previous to that. We have little influence over other countries of the world. The small, poor countries now basically tell us to get bent, if we ask something of them, because they know they'll still get their annual American taxpayer-funded stipend and military assistance. We just don't have that 'big stick' we formerly carried while treading softly among the world's collection of countries. And they all know it. I'm tired of that crap, and will do all I can to help get Romney voted into office, as well as every republican candidate for congress I can legally vote for. I can not yet place my full faith in Romney, but one thing is certain - he will be head and shoulders above that arrogant imposter we now have putting his feet on the presidential desk in the oval office.___ By Farmboy
