If it can't beat a $199 google/amzn device, then it is DOA - whether it has SIRI, retina display or not. So, I expect the stock to suffer materially if they go down that route.

Are you serious? You mean because cheaper Android tablets have done so well against the iPad?

Yeah, I didn't think so.

Ok. We know that it can't be a $199 device. So, it has to be a $299 device in all probability. If it can't beat a $199 google/amzn device, then it is DOA - whether it has SIRI, retina display or not. So, I expect the stock to suffer materially if they go down that route. Of course, we can second guess the management. They are no Steve Jobs...
We can second guess management all we want over the things they do. We always felt free to criticize Steve Jobs and question his decisions, too.

I'm saying I'm not going to start doubting Apple management because of something some rumor says they may do. I'll wait to see if they do release such a tablet, what it looks like, what it does, and how well it does in the marketplace. I agree that if the were to do this as a defensive move, that would be disturbing. I've posted about that here previously.

You, I guess, have already decided that there will be a 7" tablet, that it will cost $299, and that it will be a failure because that price is too high. That's fine. You're entitled to speculate, and to state your opinions.

Apple closed June 28th at $569 and change. In the pre-market right now it is over $602.

Your market prognostications are right up there with those of Alex Gauna and Ed Zabitsky.

You can read about Ed's AAPL call right here

Good luck to you in your investing decisions.

Apple appears to have a pricing advantage on building these things. If that is the case, and Google can afford to sell their's at $199, Apple should be able to sell one at $199 whilst making a healthy profit.

If the Apple is going to be $299, it better have more than $100 worth of extra functionality - GPS, LTE, NFC, you name it.
