Give me a bit to think about that. Meanwhile, you can surely post what you would have done!

Perhaps would have privately put pressure on Mubarak to begin to ease himself out and hold free elections before he actually left, so there would be continuity of government. This would have been done BEFORE the riots.

Or perhaps would have put pressure on him to simply lighten up on the people .. begin implementing civil rights and protection for these rights, and hopefully prevent any large scale trouble.

There are several avenues which could have been pursued, preferable alternatives to what occurred, with all the deaths and injuries.

Look at Algeria. They are managing to balance things out fairly well, with all the Islamic fundamentalism they have to deal with there, in addition to tribal conflicts. The people need employment opportunities there, and things are far from 'model' but we are seeing the government keep control, keep the fundamentalists under some form of control, all the while allowing some 'letting off steam' occasionally by the people.

Check Morocco ... another place where the government maintains control, has so far avoided the Islamic fundamentalists from taking control, but the people still have a good amount of freedom and opportunity.

One thing many never quite grasp is some societies just are not able to live under the same form of government as we have. It is sad, but true.

I wouldn't want to live my life in any of these places. But I sure wouldn't want to live in in a country 'governed' by fundamentalists, such as Iran.
