There has been some improvement since the mid-2000s in your graph. Here is the latest US current account deficit as % of GDP:



With net oil imports falling rapidly, they US will be able to farther reduce the deficit in the next few years, provided the rest of the world does not fall apart.

Yep.. How many times I said that.. Canada screwed for a while... manifestation approaching.. Government just recently worried about shipping energy elsewhere.. of course the 70s oil shock was the opportunity to take decisive Johnny Canuck action..
