Anyone think building a pipeline would be a good idea?

That depends on whether you are:

1. green
2. American
3. Canadian

Greens don't want a pipeline.

Americans' opinion is split between greens and those who want a secure, captured low cost supply.

Over and above objections from Canadian greens and first nations groups funded by US charities, most Canadians would prefer pipelines to the west and east coasts giving access to world markets and world prices. I don't see any real benefit to Canada in building a pipeline to the Houston area refining complex. Refining capacity there is sold in a dutch auction where oil shippers who sell for the lowest price get to sell their oil.
