Hasn't been a head-to-head competitor to what? The iPhone? Doesn't Google count? Samsung? Nokia?

Or are you talking about the iPad? In that case, there's Samsung, Motorola, RIM, and HP, just to name a few.

I don't see how you can say Apple hasn't faced any competition. They happen to have crushed it, is all. Only Samsung has managed to make any headway against the iPhone. They've done rather well, in fact. But they've flopped in the tablet space, comparatively.

If there hasn't been any "real" competition so far, then why is that? What are all these other companies waiting for? How much time do they need?

And by the way, I could show you posts on this thread from two, three, and four years ago, saying exactly what you're saying now.
