The fiscal crisis in turn is the result of a long record of overspending, and running too high of deficits, combined with recent poor performance from their economies.

With Greece yes; not with Spain. Stop putting them in the same corner. Spain's economics were the best in Europe when this crisis started in 2007.........its Spanish banks much like Americans banks that are the culprits for Spain's problems. Banks run by conservatives I might add.

As for Greece, yes, they screwed up but you don't correct years of bad behavior overnite and that's what the Germans are trying to do. Why? So that they don't have to pick up any of the tab. Once again, Germany wants the good that is the EU and none of the bad.
