Perhaps the Bernstein analyst's comments are overly cautious and somewhat missleading. The analyst is still predicting a 25%-30% growth rate through 2001. I don't have all of the details concerning the 150% growth for 1996, but maybe it is coming off of a very low measurement base? I am just speculating. The major concern, in my opinion is UB Networks. Newbridge management must have known that the UB acquisition as questionable at the outset. The acquisition proposal must have contained some overly optimistic(questionable) assumptions that downplayed the negatives. UB cost Newbridge and its shareholders $100 million(U.S.),add that to the cost of disposition, and the decline in market value of Newbridge stock. Do you think that Newbridge's board of directors will fire the employee who wanted the acquisition? Just joking!
