My favorite uncle Leo Karen passed away today. I cried way too much about that, elsewhere on SI. He'd tell me to get over it. No, he did not believe in God. Said, "If there were God, why did my entire family die, and why did I have to go through Auschwitz and the Death March to get here? There is no God. Take care of your loved ones, here on Earth!" He moved his entire family to Munich when the communists forced him out of Czechoslovakia, due to his views. When I asked him why Germany - of all places - after all they did to him, he replied, "These are their children, they're innocent, I love them!" Anyway, his favorite movie passage is this one: hooray for Captain Leo Spaulding Karen the African explorer!
