We pretty much hit peak "conventional" oil as Hubbert predicted, but he never addressed anything unconventional like shale or tar sands.

I switched over to the concept of "peak cheap oil" in about 2006 when EJ at iTulip conceived it. The unconventional oil sources are far costlier to deliver per BTU in general, marginal costs per barrel these days being at least $85/bbl best I can tell.
