OT
:-)
I know I could get a Roku box for sixty clams, and it would stream the Amazon stuff.

Roku?

Isn't that where you heat it to a few thousand degrees then put it into a basket full of newspapers that then spontaneously combust, producing vivid and interesting colors on the object?

"There is one specific thing I want to be able to do, and AirPlay doesn't let me. I want to be able to stream Amazon Prime video from my Mac to the TV. "

Yes, that's one area where the xBox is killing AppleTV. My preferred streaming app provider is HBO Go, but it's the same story... Available on xBox, but not on AppleTV. Even worse, the iPad has the HBO Go app, but it doesn't support AirPlay, at least not directly.

2:48 PM That Verizon Wireless ( VZ, VOD) and AT&T ( T) are engaging in price signaling - a situation where rivals quickly match each others' price changes - now seems to be admitted even by company execs. AT&T's axing of unlimited data was followed by Verizon doing the same, and all signs point to AT&T following Verizon's lead in migrating to costly shared data plans. With Sprint ( S) and T-Mobile ( DTEGY.PK) offering weak competition, this situation could continue for a while. [ Tech] 4 Comments
