Thank you for a fascinating post! The charts are intriguing and are technical/graphic masterpieces.

Why is gold being sold, or at least not being bought?

The scenario you described is certainly one plausible explanation. Gold holdings would likely be one of the first things to liquidate in order to pay off debts.

But what about the possibility that people simply don't think inflation is a looming risk factor at this point in time? With historically low inflation rates, and the increasingly real possibility of actual deflation on the horizon, why would anyone want to buy gold - even if there were no debt positions to cover?

Perhaps there are multiple reasons for gold's price action right now.
