Solar power is catching on. In our neighborhood there is a shop building with a sizable solar panel (about half one side of the roof).

Saturday I paid a guy to cut and remove ten big pine trees in my yard. I kept some wood for my fire pit, but there was way more than I wanted. He called a guy who used wood as his only source of heat and cooking, and the guy came and picked up some. I haven't checked today to see if he got the rest. He was so poor he didn't have a pot to pee in, didn't have a well or a regular house--just a shack on five acres. He had a solar panel to charge batteries for light and minor electrical needs, and a generator to run power tools.

He was poor but he wasn't dumb. Asked me if I knew who Tesla was. I did.

The trouble with solar power is that you have to store it in batteries, which means converting it from AC to DC for storage and back to AC for use.

I know of one person who has gone completely to solar power, one who has personal hydro power and one who has both.
