I recall an article, probably in REASON, in a time prior to the Internet. The thesis was that the Kochs organized their operations on Austrian principles; maximum autonomy to successful managers and commensurate rewards. They supply a lot of the stuff that makes our lives more tolerable. They pay very well and that filters to the worker drone level, which is pretty heavily unionized.

When the attacks started some of the union people there hollered, but were quickly squelched. Union bosses demand and mostly get slavish devotion to their miserable cause.

Some small part of their rather lavish charitable donations go to think tanks and organizations devoted to that form of social arrangements that have proved beyond reasonable doubt its superiority, specifically the libertarian ideals inherent in our founding.

Their incredible success could be duplicated on a national level if enough of the electorate understood what the Kochs are about.
