Tom: The following is from a Piper-Jaffrey strong buy recommendation on TQNT; "The 'problem' for VLSI is the association with Ericsson on present GSM-based products."

It feels like a weekend and it is tough to stay on topic but Ramsey is throwing flags at offenders so no football talk until Friday.

Tom, wish I was sure enough of the state of the state to give you a good response. I bought 100 shs of VLSI for number one son many years ago and it has been a real ho-hummer. More recently, I brilliantly jumped on LSI Logic @32 based on QCOM awarding them some ASIC contracts--figured it was a real vote of confidence in LSI since making those little buggers is deemed to be a mite tricky. A tech guy on the LSI thread then informs me that if Q gives you the blue print, spitting them out like popcorn ain't no big thing--it's when you try to do it all by your lonesome that you fall on your fanny like our Rotomola friends. My best guess (assuming you are interested given the track record above)is that VLSI is hitched to Ericy--see post a few back--which is the wrong horse for sure. Makes sense since all available info (including the Q's most recent quarterly report)indicates that they're selling every handset they can make. I even heard Radio Shack is freaking out that they can't get enough to satisfy demand in every city that is rolling out PCS. In short, the H&Q slam on VLSI attributed to slowing handset sells would not seem to be connected to the Q in any way, shape, or form but then you heard this from the guy that loaded up on LSI at 32 just in time to see it do a swan dive. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Your question is a good one and hopefully someone will take pity and enlighten both of us. Regards, Mike Doyle
