Overall, D.C. consumers won't save over zoned cab rates, but metered rates are fairer.

The new taxicab fares are a result of the Commission’s Findings and Determination (December 13, 2011) to restore the estimated 20-30% lost revenue from the conversion from the zone to the meter system.

BTW, D.C. doesn't have the cab medallion system like New York, but it was proposed last year.
