Let me add that the companies you were looking at are all very, very attractive. Probably great buys at the current levels. The problem is one of sentiment and fighting the trend.

Take JDSU. Very reputable company, although people will never forget the fall from the 2000 highs. Forward PE of 11, profitable in a down market, etc...

I was going to add that they are the poster child of this sector but I thought for a second and there are about 25 companies that fit that bill!!

Here's an excellent example of the current "analyst" mentality.

BRIEF-RESEARCH ALERT-Needham starts Emcore with buy
    July 13 (Reuters) - : *
Needham starts Emcore Corp <EMKR.O> with buy; price target $6.50 *
Needham starts Fabrinet <FN.N> Finisar <FNSR.O> JDS Uniphase <JDSU.O> with hold *
Needham starts NeoPhotonics Corp <NPTN.N> Oclaro Inc <OCLR.O> with hold

-------------

Emcore losses money year after year. This year, sales will drop by 20% but I see they are now a buy but nothing else in the sector is worth buying. But go ahead and hold the rest if you already own them because we are shorting the cr*p out of them and we want you to be bagholders. Sheesh, LOL, yeah. Right.

FNSR's sales are flat and they are profitable but they don't suggest you buy them at 52 week lows and a price to sales of 1 and a small fraction!

Just a small sample of the negative press the industry is getting. I find it humorous and I know that over time, I'll be right and they'll be wrong.

Please know this is not a recommendation to buy FNSR but I do believe you'll make good money 2 years from now if you should choose to do so.....however, you may have to continue to ride out an unbelievable down trend the stock has been in for the past 18 months....

EDIT - the above sentence should have been "....but I do believe you'll make good money SOME TIME OVER THE NEXT 2 years from now...."
