Hi Dave, Intel is working on a modem card. I don't remember the details, but the details are on their site. Modem replacement is no big deal. You can create endless reasons why you should be cautious, but at some point you gotta take the bull by the horns. Market players will gamble now, worry later. Waiting 3 quarters to get confirmation that everything is safe is risky. That's not the right kind of risk to take. You got to take it when it looks like it is about to nose dive like it looks now. It may just do that. I'll take that risk.

People aren't going to jump on @Work and @Media until the infrastructure is established. MCNS catch on? MCNS simply assures the various cable operators that when they install a modem they can interoperate so you don't get bagged by buying a modem that won't get the good stuff. 90% haven't even thought about getting @Home service. Bay, Coms, Cisco, Intel, they know all this stuff. Worrying about details like these clouds the issue. The issue for Wall Street is whether DSL or cable modem will prevail.

So Bay and LanCity lose some dough. They both would be happy to replace the modems because inevitably they would be replaced with better ones. It gives these companies a chance to show their good graces and committment to quality service. The PR is worth twice the d--- modems. Outside initially, I'm not buying hardware, I'm buying high speed broadband services. I've got my shopping list in preparation.
