But, I get your point. I think every corporate entity should be evaluated yearly to determine if they are in the public interest. If they can't demonstrate that, they should be given a year to do so. After that - gone. I have trouble seeing how massive leveraged derivative bets are in our interest.

I didn't say that. And I agree that the banks, insurance companies, and other financial entities harmed everyone but themselves with their bad behavior.

I responded as I did to you because your statement was that the banks harmed "taxpayers." If by taxpayers you mean everyone, then yes, I agree. But using that term when you mean everyone obfuscates your meaning.
