g'morning clappy

we use a brooder lamp to keep the chicks warm
when we buy chicks too.

in this instance, the hen will lay eggs until she has
a clutch, then will stop laying and sit on them until
they have all hatched generally within a day or two
of each other. during that time, about 21 days, she
is seldom off the nest - maybe 15 minutes a day.

now that they have hatched, she'll walk around
with the chicks following and if she's a good mom,
she'll protect them. they say with first time moms
sometimes they don't, particularly if they themselves
have been incubator hatched.

we might have to take this chick (or two if another
hatches) away from her and raise them ourselves,
but i hope not.

clappy -

glad to say, mama cass is taking care of
her chick ..... showed her how to drink, and
peck for food scattered on the floor.

kind of hard to see the chick, but she is on
the left.
