Steve, both Woodward and Gergen are Republicans. At least, old style Republicans.

That said, I have said before that the real question isn't whether or not Bain outsourced--many companies have outsourced--the real question is, does the fact that Romney was the head of Bain mean that, as he repeatedly claims, "knows how to create jobs in America"--and, as should be added, as President of the US, not as president of a private equity firm. It is clear that as president of a private equity firm, he knows how to create jobs in other countries, and it is clear that he knows he make money from a company even if fails. Perhaps, as FDR said about Joe Kennedy, that means he might make a good SEC director, but it isn't at all clear why that means that he would make a good president. The role of a President is very different from the role of an executive in the private sector.

Bob Woodward was on Meet the Press this morning and repeated pretty much what Gergen had said a few days earlier about Romney role at Bain between 99 and 02. That is not much.
He may have not had anything to do with the decision making at all. However, he was still CEO and the sole shareholder, so if the company made money by investing in outsourcing and the disposal of aborted human fetuses, then he made money from that.

But for the sake of the argument, let's accept for a fact that he had no involvement in running Bain whatsoever. That would mean that he lied to the Massachusetts election board that reviewed his standing as a resident when he was running for Governor.

One way or the other, the sword cuts.
