To: Alan Smithee who wrote (216440 ) 7/16/2012 10:45:55 AM From: KLP Respond to of 225578 I remember the old Silverton and Durango and Ouray.....Those would be more south than I think you went....My early family settled in Elbert County on the "Eastern Slope" from the 1870's, then my Grandparents and parents moved to the "Western Slope" in the early 1940's.....During the war, we lived in Denver....and in 1948 moved to Albuquerque. So lots of driving back and forth to see Grandparents on the roads of Colorado....The Million Dollar highway is beautiful, but I sure wouldn't want to drive it again today....had enough of that as a kid....Scary road! This first one is from a motorcycle POV --the roads are a bit wider than they were in the 40’s and 50’s, and have guardrails in some places now. I remember the old stone ‘rails’ of old that might have really dented your car, before you went over the cliff….. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUyXL0xWdoE Uploaded by msmagnatone on Sep 2, 2009 This is about 5 minutes long - good shots of the hairpins, the breathtaking scenery and sheer drops off the guard rail-less sides - incredible ride! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idXrlV3aWgo This 45-minute trip is completed in only 10 minutes in this sped up version.
