I don't think either side is credible. I hear constant BS from the right about how the left and poor do not pay any taxes. I have government data that shows they are lying. It is in the monthly treasury statement that shows the payroll taxes of all sorts (the taxes for Social Security, etc.) are actually higher than taxes on income of all sorts. When you add in the contribution to property taxes taken from every renter via rent.. taxes on everything from energy to cell phones then 8.375% sales tax in CA, I'm sure most at the bottom pay a higher TOTAL tax rate than anyone making over $500K a year. Maybe it is over $1,000,000 a year but the left has a point the very rich don't pay a fair rate. The trouble is Obama doesn't articulate it well, neither side wants to admit the payroll taxes they've taken for decades was all spent, not invested as if it was a real pension at a real company, so the money just went to the general fund and was spent.
