Living in the Ozarks, I wouldn't either, and have used mine several times in the past 8 years here. longest stretch was during an ice storm ( Ice hit between us and the power source - had none around my house) when the power was off from Monday afternoon until Friday afternoon. In my mind, it paid for itself just that use alone. With the gas furnace, it ran the heater fan and kept us warm, enough lights to live with, the refrigerator (even though we could have just kept things on the deck!) television, computer if needed .. all the essentials. I will try to always have one available.
