If you plan to activate the account with a transfer that can take some time. If you open the account, even with no money, once the account is active you can request a DTC transfer of the securities you want to put into your NDB account. This request must be made to the firm currently holding the securities. If your NDB account is open, and you request a DTC transfer (different from a regular transfer) it should only take a few business days. My last experience took 2 business days from Paine Webber to Farsight.
