<<<<< if you really want to solve things, you'll look at the long game.>>>>>

That's the point epicure. If you look at the long game it is disastrous. You - and others - seem to think we can go back to where we were. I disagree. We can't because of demographics - and because the debt pilling up just keeps pilling up. There are other reasons of course, like housing that won't come back and politics that has moved into a very dark place and an aging population that is living longer. You can't deny these things, because they are facts. Bernanke said yesterday going forward the GNP can be expected to grow at 2 or less. He said he has done about all he can and now it is up to congress. Well what chance do you see of help coming from them? Meanwhile, more baby boomers dribble into retirement - and medicare, more debt is added on top of heaps of more debt - no relief for those under water on their loans which takes them out of the market for homes and other spendings - and unemployment remains stubbornly high, despite that we are now into year 4 or is it 5 and stimulus money is now mostly gone.

<<<<<But still- we should try not to recreate the mistakes of the past>>>>>

The mistake of the past is living beyond our means. We are still doing that and many clamor for living even further beyond our means!
