At exactly the same time you wrote that I send a private message to someone saying this:

"I'm for deep defense cuts. But that would need to be done carefully. We can't just dump all those employees on the economy, and the defense contractors also employ huge numbers of people, and help support our economy. So while I want to cut, if it were me in charge, I'd cut slowly- as we forged swords in to plowshares."

................

:-)

Same goes for switching to single payer. We'd have to have a system in place to take care of the displaced, and we would need to protect our economy from the hit it would take when all that lovely "profit" for the insurance companies was no longer a necessary part of the system.

<<<<but what would be the economic consequences of your cuts?>>>>>

We are now rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan, I would bring those people home and rebuild America. Green energy, fast transit, efficient power grid, conversion to NG, better internet backbone. Build some new health care facilities for the aging boomers maybe? The list is only restricted by our imagination and will to do it.
