"interesting comments at Amazon re this"

Like this one...

POGOPLUGS lack of attention to many IT aspects such as install and updates makes this product difficult to install and use and seemly random problems are unpredictable to trouble shoot

Do not buy POGOPLUG...
But if you do... READ ALL OF THIS and read pogoplug forums

If you buy a pogoplug and...
1. it installs
2. and works
3. functional properly each time you try to use it YOU ARE LUCKY!!!

There are some simple steps
1. you must get LUCKY guessing all settings such as DSN, IP etc
with every step of the install
there is no feedback during install,
no indication of what is not working IT JUST DOESNT WORK!!!!!

2. You must get LUCKY guessing what procedures will keep the pogoplug working.
Trobleshooting and resolving the problem was unpredictable because
any one procedure NEVER worked every time
It constantly went off-line

I did one or all of these steps until I FINALLY GAVE UP!!!
1. go to the online My Pogoplug and futz with settings
2. restart/reload program
3. cycle the power on the pogoplg
4. unplug the Ethernet cable
5. reboot computer
6. delete the logs
7. uninstall drivers, delete registry entries , reinstall software/drivers

I cannot stress enough DO NOT CALL POGOPLUG SUPPORT
DO READ THE POGOPLUG FORUMS ...I am not the only one

if this has not scared you...
I have endured many software updates and each caused problems
1. if one computer on the network was a different version the results were unpredictable,
such as: did not list files locally , the computer was not accessible remotely, etc etc
2. the updates were so drastically different they were almost different products
and took time to relearn the procedures
3. I do not believe the updates are backward compatible

The install has a bug. I have tried to get CHRIS LOUIE(POC pogoplug) attention to fix this.
The install on a new computer, or a recently restored computer has problems because
the version of .Net Framework it requires will not work as a standalone program
because it is an update - lower versions are needed to get a successful install

In summary I do not recommend buying
