i find that being liberal or conservative doesn't necessarily
make one good or evil; more compassionate or less
compassionate.

both groups have valid life experiences to draw their beliefs
from.

<<My kids are half liberal and half conservative. >>

How does that work?

In my family, including my extended family (ex wives and their kids) we are all hard core far left liberals and yellow dog Democrats. Lucky, because if any of them had been conservative, they would have had a hard time in our family. One of my ex's sister is a bit conservative and has a conservative husband and they have a hell of a time at family gatherings.

Look at how human history has unfolded. The kings and queens, feudal lords and tribal chiefs and the dark ages. Child sweatshops and serfs and peasants. In the middle east women were treated worse than dogs. They had no rights at all. That was true of most women around the world until just recently and most people.

Then the liberals (people who embraced change) drug us out of the Dark Ages and into the age of enlightenment, formed Republics and wrote consitutions giving the people the right to rule themselves (for the first time in history really (except fo the ancient Greeks to some degree)) and then forced our conservative culture to end slavery, segregation, give women the vote, end sex discrimination, and allow gay marriag, etc, etc.

I am reading a great book right now: "virgins of Paradise" about women's emancipation from their church and very conservative culture, over a hundred years, last century. What women had/have to endure in the muslim culture was beyond most peoples belief. And all the horrible things done to women was done in the name of god. Totally in the name of god.

51% of scientists call themsleves liberal and 80% lean democratic, while only 6% are Republican's.

So my liberal ideology is based on history and fact as I see it, and is why I embrace it.
