My youngest son was educated in Switzerland and had several friends from Saudi Arabia.........men and women. I personally met one gal from Saudi that will definitely kick some Saudi man's butt someday soon.........she was dressed in full western garb with all the trimmings........came over to me of her own wil and shook my hand in a rather strong manner..................she is an example of what's in the future for these tribal societies who will need to grow and develop through social movements stemming from the actions of their own citizens.

My son had bought his ticket to Egypt to visit the Saudi Ambassador's daughter with other friends when the revolt broke out and they cancelled. She and her family left for home. After my son's graduation two June's back he gave his apartment to some Syrian friends who's parents wouldn't let them come home from school. There is strife all over the Middle East but it was all quite predictable.........my son's friends took a trip through Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan two summers back because they were told by their ME friends that all hell was about to break loose there and their chances of visiting safely were disappearing fast........they were right.

It will take many years and decades to change but the seeds have been planted.

PS. I know a Jordanian gal who went to medical school in Baghdad when Saddam was in power...........she had no trouble there. She continues to use the head scarf cause she is accustomed to it even tho her hubby doesn't care what she wears. Change takes time.
