I'm not sure if the link for Visigenic has been posted here before, it might have been. At any rate, here it is:visigenic.com There is some really interesting information about the relationship between Borland and Visigenic and how each will help one another as partners in the rapidly growing enterprise middleware market. For example the following about JAVA is from a White Paper on the buyout posted at:visigenic.com Market Growth for Java and CORBA Java has rapidly evolved from an interesting language for Web graphics and user interfaces to the strategic choice for enterprise IT. This evolution is the result of the rapid improvements in the Java standard, the introduction of robust development environments and component libraries and the desire of IT organizations to build platform-independent applications. "By the year 2000, an estimated 97% of all corporations will have Java applications in their enterprise." --Zona Research IT organizations are selecting Java not just as a development language, but as a strategic platform in the evolution from client/server architecture to multi-tier distributed object computing. In a recent study by Zona Research, 75% of those corporations surveyed indicate that they will use Java to integrate and extend the life of existing applications. "Within two years, over 74% of corporations expect to use Java for server logic and database connections." --Forrester Research I would appreciate some of you commenting on the meaning of this. Does it mean that Rod is right (heaven forbid <g>)? Does it mean that JAVA is in fact a direct threat to Microsoft? If so, then what is Microsoft likely to do to counter this, and how will that ultimately affect Borland? Seems to me that this a pretty important issue to the long-term viability of Borland. Or, am I all wet and making a mountain out of a molehill? TIA for your comments. Sam
