Read it... how about refute it... that's EASY!!!

<As Reason Magazine’s>

Oh, jeeeez, this is going to be easier than I thought!! "Reason Magazine"?? Is that the zine that Joe the Plumber writes for??

< James Pethokoukis have noted, federal spending under the Obama administration has been at historic highs, consuming 24 percent of the economy, on average, compared to around 20 percent under George Bush, and 20 percent or less in most years since the end of World War II.>

"JP"??? Just as I thought... "Joe the Plumber"! "Consuming 24% of the economy"..... Ummm, cha! That's the strategy, that's what stimulus IS! What is incredible is that Bush's numbers are an 8 year average during the end of a BUBBLE. So even during the biggest bubble in history, he ran up insane deficits culiminating in a massive Trillion + deficit in the last year just as the mother of all bubbles was bursting! How can that be???

Let's face it, the Rwingnutz would have us believe that heading into a depression with a contracting economy Obama should have cut spending like mad just to look fiscally responsible. This would be tantamount to a bear hybernating in the winter forcing himself to stop breathing so he wouldn't burn more calories than he was taking in. Yea... read it again... every system runs "deficits" when the time is right. When the economy sucks you run deficits... in fact, since this is the MOTHER OF ALL DEPRESSIONs, even if you had been running surpluses (which of course you should during a boom... duhhhhh!), it makes complete sense to run a deficit when times are tough. Somehow even a smart wingnut cant seem to figure out that is exactly what "saving for a rainy day" means... Ummm, wake up, it's been POURING rain!!!!

<By contrast, under the Eisenhower administration, the federal budget ranged from $76 billion in 1953, to $97 billion in 1961, according to the World Almanac. >

Ummmm, Mr. Plumber... that's a whopping 78% increase!!! Compare that to Obama's:

factcheck.org

Now read the article, and note he's clearly talking about growth in spending:

forbes.com

If you're going to talk about Oranges, it's customary to speak Orange... if you're going to switch to apple speak, you may want to note that in your plumbing contract.

Now Joe... please stick to plumbing. Just THINK if Obama was able to increase spending like GWB!! Man would we be having a parTAY!

DAK

I know it is in style for Obama haters to blame Obama for everything but to blame Obama for the spending in 2009 is more than just a little crazy - its dishonest. You are correct that Bush didn't want to spend much as he was running for his ranch in Texas as fast as he could get out of town, but his advisors told him he would be another Hoover if he didn't step in and do something big. He did and that spending was not only to try and save a little legacy for a pathetic president but it was an attempt to stop the complete economic armageddon! `If Obama had caused the meltdown - then we could assign spending to correct it on him - but he didn't! That was Bush. Are you unable to put this into the context of what was happening at the end of the Bush term? From the Forbes article - and remember Forbes ran for president as a republican;

Indeed, not only was the 2009 budget the property of George W. Bush—and passed by the 2008 Congress—it was in effect four months before Barack Obama took the oath of office.
