She's paid thousands and thousands into that system. She should at least get that back. The other problem is that in the US it is impossible to get individual insurance coverage if you qualify for Medicare. So, the choice is to take them both or to go without insurance coverage. It isn't about hypocrisy, it is about the government sticking its nose into everyone's business.
