If that shotgun goes off, we won't live to see December. Or even August.

Is it possible for all the planets in the solar system to line up in a single line?

There are 8 planets. To get any three of them to "line up" is a pretty rare event. Four is nigh onto impossible and five has a probability of next to nothing.

So, no.

No, it is not, because the orbits of the planets are tilted at a variety of angles to the plane of Earth's orbit in three dimensions. A line is 1 dimension in a 2 dimensional plane. If you put kinks into that line in three dimensions, it's not a line any more. Play with Solar System Live and stick in any date from 8000 BC to 8000 AD and see where the planets are in relation to each other in 2 dimensions on that date. The site is very interactive. You can use a variety of calendars.

Short Answer: NO

Long Answer: The earth and other planets are not placed on top of an imaginary table, and therefore is not capable of aligning themselves, but from some point of view, you may assume that planets do line up in a single line, like the stars in Orion's Belt, the appear to be in line with each other, but if you go out in space, you will see that they do not really form a line. It just depends on your perspective.
