THANKSGIVING MOMENT Stepping out on my back porch this brisk Thanksgiving morn Wrapped in a warming quilt I snuggle into my rocking chair Behold God's artful colors reigns o'er fields of homes and corn Sipping casually on a hot morning brew I can't help but stare Observing the dawn in awe I ponder lightly on this historical day Pilgrims and Indians sharing a mere thanksgiving moment in time Little did our ancestors realize this act of goodness was here to stay Even now this scene of sharing survives in a world fraught with crime. Unexpectedly my daughter of eight appears wiping sleep from her eyes Her precious voice sings, "Morning Daddy." as I open the warm quilt with a loving smile I reply, "Morning Sweetheart." as she eagerly complies Snuggling in I cover her as I remember this age of innocence free of guilt Silently we rock as a rainbow stretches across horizon a smile from God Looking up she asks, "Daddy can I have a sip of your hot cocoa please." As she rose up I softly said, "Of course Sweetheart." with a simple nod After she had taken a small sip she settled back into the warmth with ease With all the moments of our lives to be thankful for, it is simple ones like this Merely negligent true memories of Thanksgiving Day on which to reminisce Gary Swancey 11/27/1997 Happy Thanksgiving ...
