That was quite an accomplishment, given that your grandpa didn't use Ancestry.com.

Did he use the LDS genealogy lab in Salt Lake City?

Started my 'book' today ......and started listing some of the items I wanted to include....Over all theme is Old and New....My/Our life and what some of our experiences are/have been, and weaving in the mix, telling the story as I discovered it of many of my ancestors.....I will have small chapters talking about everyday things, like House Work now vs then ....Timelines for everyone as I've found them, and my own....Relationships....Careers.....or not......Earning a living.....Homes now and then.....Family members...In sickness and in health......Laundry day (and other home work), Growing and Gathering food, vs today, with our stores....and all sorts of etcs...

I've been collecting family info for over 40 years now....just organizing some of the materials is a full time job. Have collected as much info as I could on all 16 of my major lines --5 generation charts....and many other extended lines as well. Plus have as many of those as possible for my husband's family lines as well.

I still can't resist "hunting" rather than "gathering".....Hunting is MUCH more fun....especially with all the wonderful pieces of info out there.

At a special "gals night out" dinner last night, one of the gals asked me what I thought of Ancestry....I had it for a year last year as a gift. Basically, it seems "braggadocio" of me to say I had almost all of the material already, but for some of the pictures some people had added....but that was exactly her thought as well. If I was just beginning, I'd certainly use Ancestry as a start. Now, I may use it again, on a per month basis.....I still don't have ANYTHING on a Computer Program for Genealogy, so now that must be done first....and is very time consuming.

I did find though, that Ancestry is a really great group of "clues" if one is starting out.....The real work is when you have to check all of those pieces of info to see if they are accurate or not. Some of my work has been quoted from Queries I made 12 or more years ago, and even then, some of the folks didn't get the info straight. In one case, I sent some info to a Library in the town where I knew one family group lived from about 1840 until about 1880's when they died. At that time, the things I "Thought" might be true, but hadn't proven to my satisfaction, were quoted as gospel. My fault....I had noted on each sheet, that I had used parentheses (.....) for the "I thinks".....what I should have used was brackets [....]. They are a universal sign for the person who is writing and working with records, that that person has added info of her/his own, and not yet proven.

If you ever do post any Query or other info online use the brackets....It is REALLY hard to get someone to change their internet post if they misquoted you....

Anyway.....This is what I started with today. May not stay that way, but it is a start....

There!! I’ve finally started some of the memories of my life, by putting the cursor and and the keys on the computer key board together. Nike’s motto is “Just Do It”. So I begin. But where…..? For many years now, I’ve believed that each of us on earth is a blend of Old and New. Have seen nothing in my 72 years now to change that belief.
