It is interesting to note today that one of the most respected polling firms in the nation, Rasmussen, has published their latest poll which indicates that Romney has taken an impressive 5-point lead, nationally [1].

Unfortunately, that national lead is still not translating into an electoral college win [2], which is all that ultimately matters. We all know that Romney could easily win the popular vote in a landslide and still lose the electoral college and the election along with it.

To put the latest Rasmussen electoral college results [2] into perspective, Obama enjoys a 247-191 lead, with 100 electoral votes still pending in the so-called swing states. That means that Romney would need to win 79 percent of those 100 swing state votes that are up for grabs to reach the magic number of 270 needed to win the election. Needless to say, that's a tall order to fill, and Obama is leading in most of those states.
