we went to a nearby town and attended a larger market fair, and bought fresh yogurt, roast chicken, roast pig knuckle, sausages, hard cheese, three bottles of wine, fresh fish, much raw meat, raw butter, and lots of garden fresh veggies (the tomatoes are beautiful), and fruits (peaches fantastic) - enough for 10 folks (new guests arriving today) for 3-4 days, and the bill was less than euro 150. Once one stops counting, the price does not seem outrageous.

Our landlady who accompanied us had at one time stocked her lake w/ 80 ducks and geese. They are mostly missing in action as they meandered around. I told her someone may be poaching them for sale after roasting. I told her there is a roast goose restaurant in hong kong that does usd 8 million of roasted goose sales per month. The numbers were revealed as the three brothers had a falling out and went to court to split up the biz or some such. Landlady commented that sort of revenue flow out of a single restaurant is equivalent to the GDP of several villages here and about.

Landlady is expatriated from USA, had quit one of the investment banks and married to retire into quietude. Now going nuts because it is toooooooo quiet here. She is very nice and tutoring Erita in painting.
