There are certain advantages from transitioning to walking upright ,because the fusion of chromosomes could have altered the function of the Hox B genes which are now found on our fused chimp/ape chromosome 2 and associated with changes in morphology specifically control the way the pelvis and lower spine. Those parts of the chimpanzee brain devoted to grasping with their feet could now be devoted to other tasks in upright bipedal hominid's brain with more advantage for moving about , scavenging & digging out meals on the open ground . Another advantage of upright bipedal locomotion , the 2012 US Olympic Volley Ball Team ...also famous for getting great "digs" , how do you like these naked ape descendents ? (yes there have been some subtle changes since man ansestors lost their tails & no longer found hanging out in trees by their feet , in your face changes , the religious "coverup" still remains the same )
