You still have not explained why you think the federal government is the answer to the problems you pose. Social Security provides a safety net for the elderly but because of the federal government's propensity to "borrow" from itself all that's left of SS funds is a bunch of IOUs and the size of the younger workforce to replenish it is dwindling. Why do we need Obamacare, another humongous bureaucracy not just for the elderly, when the economy's in the pits? And BTW, there are plenty of existing programs, state and federal, to help the elderly already, and many states offer medical insurance for the poor and uninsurable. Why not work on expanding those?
