I don't get that. Who is arguing that we can save money by eliminating cost controls? There are lots of negative side effects of the kind of cost controls that we do but higher prices is sure not one of them. The only way cost goes up as a result of cost controls is that demand goes up resulting in greater utilization. But that mostly matters when the patient is footing the bill. Or if you couple it with utilization controls, aka "death panels."
