Personally, I believe you have the right to be free to choose who you serve. However, my POV is illegal.

The owner refused to make them a "wedding" cake.

He said he would sell them anything else, birthday cakes, cookies etc.

He would not make them a "wedding" cake, based on his religious beliefs

What the baker could do is tell the happy couple he will donate the money for the cake to the Family Research Council. Call it a win-win. They get their cake and he supports his beliefs.
